Valentine's Day Apron
The hubs & I recently chatted about how we wanted to celebrate Valentine's day this year, & we decided to have "a date" at home. Fighting the crowds of over-dressed, love-crazed people, & paying way too much for our dinner just doesn't sound appealing to me at all. Plus, the older we get, the more life gets hectic, & suddenly staying at home becomes a treat.
So as the main feature of our "stay-at-home-date" I'll be cooking a super-tasty dinner, (the menu is yet to be determined) while wearing a super-snazzy & festive Valentine's Apron (& probably some not-so-snazzy sweatpants).
During the holidays, I was given a really cute striped tea towel, that served as gift-wrap for a yummy loaf of pumpkin bread. (Great idea, by the way!) I cannot bring myself to actually use tea towels as rags - they're just far too cute to get dirty - which they totally would, in MY kitchen.
Below are my supplies:

Steps:
- Iron some interfacing on the reverse side of some red fleece, or felt. This will make your pockets nice & strong.
- I used a heart pattern (I found at Cut Out & Keep) & some pinking shears to cut out these adorable heart pockets. You want them to be at least 6 inches across when you print them out, mine were a teeny bit smaller than they should've been.
- Pin the pockets onto front of the apron (I used my stripes to help with alignment!) & stitch them on - but only along the bottom half of the heart shape. Be sure to leave the top half open, so you can still use it as a pocket!
- The top of your apron will be the side that does NOT have the hang-tag on it. You don't want to have to punch a grommet through that tag thingy. Fold the top corners down at a 45 degree angle, pin them, & iron them to make them smooth, & stitch the corners down.
- Position your grommets as shown in the picture below, & follow the instructions on the back of the grommet kit to permanently attach them.
- Now take the whole length of ribbon off the spool. You'll need about 3 yards, minimum. Start at the top, and thread the ribbon in & out of the grommets as shown in the below photos - to create a cute criss-cross in the back, & a "knotted" belt type feature in the front. Make sure the ends of the ribbon are trimmed at a neat 45 degree angle, to prevent fraying. Now simply put it on, & let's get cookin'!
